The area itself is beautiful and offers a wealth of attractions to suit all tastes including pretty villages sandy beaches and a coastline which has World Heritage status. There are many National Trust properties and gardens that are all well worth a visit including Stourhead Montacute Kingston Lacy Corfe Castle Hardy s Cottage and Studland Beach and Nature Reserve. In addition to this the towns of Dorchester Sherborne and Yeovil are easily accessible and there are many attractions to visit including Monkey World The Tank Museum a Sea Life Centre Abbotsbury Swannery and Longleat. For golf enthusiasts there is a golf course 300 yards away but if golf is not your game there are many other country pursuits within easy reach. Leisure facilities: shared indoor heated leisure pool (4 deep throughout) perfect for the summer and winter alike the pool is open 8.30am-8pm every day however private bookings are taken occasionally further information and timetables can be found onsite the pool is also open to non-residents by prior arrangement. Outside: the grounds offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside as well as two large lakes which attract a wealth of wildlife including herons badgers kingfishers woodpeckers and swans. The property is located in Thomas Hardy country in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just outside the pretty village of Hooke and a short drive away from the small town of Beaminster and the beaches and cliffs of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.
There are excellent walks and cycle rides across the West Dorset countryside directly from the property, with the Iron Age Fort of Eggardon Hill and the nature reserves of Kingcombe and Powerstock Common all nearby, along with many other historic towns and villages. The barn is located on a working sheep farm and guests are welcome to meet and help look after the animals.
A number of good pubs are within a 10 minute drive away such as The Three Horseshoes at Powerstock and the Acorn at Evershot. Also within a 10 minute drive are plenty of local services and conveniences found in either Maiden Newton or Beaminster.
