Accommodation overview: Khina Cottage details
In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Khina Cottage at North Foreland Lighthouse.
Khina, with accommodation for four guests, is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse, which lies on the chalk headland above the charming and unspoilt seaside town of Broadstairs at the far eastern tip of Kent. Both cottages are very child friendly, surrounded by spacious lawned grounds and set well away from cliffs.
The holiday cottages have shared use of a very large one-acre lawned garden and patio with ample space to sit out.
Places to visit in this area of Kent include Joss Bay which has an excellent sandy beach, only three minute's walk away. The nearest pub, the Digby Inn, is a 10-minute stroll and serves good food. For golfing enthusiasts, the North Foreland Golf Club is very close by.
Broadstairs has good sandy beaches and an attractive old town which has literary associations with Charles Dickens. Bleak House in the town is where Dickens lived while he was writing David Copperfield. The town holds a Dickens Festival in June each year and a popular Folk Music Week in August.
The earliest reference to a light on North Foreland was given in a deed dated 1499 and, at that time, it was almost certain that the beacon was used to warn of attack or piracy rather than as an aid to navigation. The lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Accommodation overview: Located in a pleasant residential area of the historic Cinque Port of Hythe with its quaint lanes, lies this sweet detached holiday property. This is a superb centre from which to visit many of the famous attractions and places of interest within the area - the Channel Tunnel terminal for trips to France is a ten minute drive away. Walk or cycle along the Military Canal which is just down the road, from Seabrook to West Hythe (five miles) and a three minute walk will take you to Brockhill Country Park with its lake and walks, plus of course the famous Hythe and Dymchurch railway.
