Accommodation overview: Malt House Cottage, tucked away in a very quiet spot, is a classic period holiday cottage providing cosy, warm self catering accommodation within the heart of the market town of Newent. Formerly the stables for the Malt House, the cottage has a history dating back 200+ years and inside there are some examples of this with the original beams and wooden staircase still evident today. We felt a very welcoming ambience within the property, as you often have within such period properties, but the immaculate presentation made it feel special and unique. Of real appeal, however, is the stunning garden which has been created by the owner, the award winning gardener Julian Dowle, who has won many Gold Medals at the Chelsea Flower Show - a more truly 'English Country Garden' you will not find - we viewed it in full swing! All in all this is a delightful holiday cottage that we are confident you will enjoy at all times of the year. Excellent facilities are on your doorstep in the town, all of which are literally seconds away.ACCOMMODATIONEntrance from garden through to small lobby, with hooks for hanging and boots/ shoes, leading to kitchen.Kitchen, galley style, well equipped with 4 ring electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, washing machine and ample work surfaces.Living Room, a lovely spacious room opening out to the conservatory beyond, with sofa and additional chairs, gas 'flame effect' fire within fireplace, flatscreen TV with Freeview, plus DVD player and additional stereo. Sorry No Pets. Babes in arms (up to 3 years) welcome, but please note NO cot or high chair available.Good Mobile Reception. Off street Parking for one car.Local InformationNewent is a bustling market town situated in Gloucestershire, in the heart of Wye Valley countryside. It is a sweet, bustling town with many attractions, restuarants and pubs to choose from - all a short stroll from the cottage. The town is a short distance (and therefore a short drive) from The Royal Forest of Dean and The Cotswolds which, respectively, have excellent cycle paths and walks through the woods; and countless delightful villages, towns and attractions to choose from. Interestingly, Newent was once particularly known for its profusion of Spring daffodils which used to be picked and delivered to local hostpitals, although this has since stopped the local area still has swathes of daff's but these are more for 'general enjoyment' and therefore picking is generally not encouraged! Also of note, bizarrely, is that Newent hosts the annual Onion Fair which is exactly as it sounds but also includes an onion eating competition! Sounds hilarious...

Accommodation overview: The Granary (Cotswolds) details
The Granary incorporates an original stone barn and offers peaceful seclusion in a very rural position at the end of a half mile private road. Guests will enjoy spacious, comfortable and generously sized accommodation with sunny south west facing views across farmland and privately owned woodland.
With a network of footpaths nearby there is plenty of walking and the lack of light pollution means wonderful star gazing at night. It is in an area with lots of native wildlife: badgers, foxes, deer, ravens, sparrow hawks, owls (including barn owls), woodpeckers, nuthatches and lots of garden birds. This is a unique corner of West Gloucestershire, famous for native wild daffodils in spring.
The large enclosed fenced and private garden with cherry trees is safe for dogs. The Granary is adjoining the owners' home.
There is a large privately owned lake nearby (100 yards from The Granary) and guests are welcome to use it (at their own risk) for freshwater swimming and fishing. Well stocked with Tench, Bream, Perch, Rudd and even Bleak, this is an area full of native wildlife such as frogs, newts, toads and dragonflies – with an occasional chance to glimpse a kingfisher.
London is approximately a three hour drive. Local train stations are Ledbury and Gloucester.
